Default Visiting St Petersburg on a cruise

Hi, I will be vising St Petersburg on a cruise ship for couple of days in May. Of course I would like to explore the city and I researched available options. It looks like you must have Russian visa to step onshore and there are two ways of doing this - group visas and individual visas. A group visa is cheaper, but you are stuck with a group. Private visa is a bit more expensive, but you have more freedom to explore the city. I would like to hear your opinion on what you think is better. Thanks

Default Group vs private visa for cruise passengers

Hi my name is Christina, I am one of the employees of Travel All Russia. Thank you very much for your question. We have actually had a lot of cruise passengers asking about visa regulations for getting ashore in St. Petersburg. We know it can get very confusing, so let me explain that briefly.

Cruise passengers can get on shore either through group or private visa. It is true that if you choose to buy a tour suggested by the cruise company you will pay less for visa but you will have to be a part of this big group and visit only places scheduled for your group. If you prefer freedom of choice of places to go and the amount of time to spend there, you should choose private visa. We can also offer you 2 day tours of St. Petersburg that are designed specifically for cruise passengers. Please follow this link for details on visas for cruise passengers and for tours that we can offer:

St. Petersburg is an interesting and magnetic destination for travelers. The majority of cruise lines stay 2 or 3 days in this jewel of Baltic Cruise ports.
