Kurt, there are so many great, centrally located apartments in Moscow and they're a great alternative to hotels. Do you know when you would need the apartment? The dates are usually most important factor in price.

I was thinking about August, right after the peak season. I was hoping to find something that does not cost more than 130-150 dollars per night, is centrally located and is nice inside. Do you think it's realistic? Thanks.

I think so. I rented an an apartment on Smolenskaya Embankment last summer for two weeks and paid 160 dollars per night. It was a great location - right next to the Arbat Street - and it was just like normal hotel room. Room service was included too.

Are there apartments a little farther away from the city center, but close to subway? I don't mind using public transportation and am looking for something not more than $100 per day. Is it possible at all in Moscow?

Moscow Apartments 4U can provide you great alternative to a hotel in Moscow or you just not ready to pay high nightly rates for some of the western style city hotels, - apartment in Moscow for rent! Whether you're coming to Russia for a travel or a business trip, alone or with your family, it can be nice to stay in your own apartment in Moscow. It can make one feel the city life better and provide greater independence, intimacy, safety and comfort. You can invite any guests and nobody will disturb you.

This is an interesting question. I think you are looking at about the same costs as in the states. While you can save on some things, like kindergarten and doctors, you overpay on others, like baby clothes. As for milk and food for babies, I would imagine it would cost the same. If you are able to buy baby clothes in the US to Moscow, I think it would be more economical to raise a baby in Russia, if you don't mind living in a gigantic urban area.
