Day 2 Moscow

Your morning tour of Moscow takes you to the Red Square, an iconic symbol of Russia’s former military and political might.  Here we see an eclectic mix of architecture, such as St Basil’s Cathedral with its magnificent onion-domed spires, the Kremlin with its imposing walls, and the evocative site of Lenin’s tomb. You will board the luxurious Grand Trans Siberian Express in the evening. Enjoy a welcome dinner onboard.
Day 3 Kazan

You will arrive at the picturesque city of Kazan by mid-morning.  Situated on the River Volga, Kazan is the capital of Tatarstan and filled with a rich tapestry of history and culture. One of the highlights of this city is the Kremlin Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that houses a stunning mosque and an onion-domed cathedral.

After a relaxing dinner on the Golden Eagle, you may wish to retire to our welcoming bar where you can enjoy drinks with your new friends and listen to our resident pianist.
Day 4 Yekaterinburg

Founded in 1723 by Peter the Great, it is the third largest Russian city and the capital of the Urals. This is where Europe and Asia meet. The cultural and architectural influences of European and Asian civilizations blend together in this fascinating cosmopolitan landscape.

Our driver will greet you at the rail station and take you to the hotel. We have prepared a very special tour of Yekaterinburg for you. It was here that the bolsheviks secretly executed the Romanoff's royal family, including Russia's last tsar Nicolas II. We will take you to that grim place where a small church has been built to commemorate those brutal days. This site will provide you with a powerful powerful insight into the turmoil of the Russian Revolution.

Day 5 Novosibirsk

After passing through the plains of Western Siberia, the Grand Trans Siberian Express will stop in Novosibirsk. A modern Soviet city, Novosibirsk’s rich culture of art, science, and literature predominate. Your city tour takes you to the Opera House, an architectural marvel that houses two permanent ballet and opera companies and is the largest opera house in the world. In front of the Opera House is an imposing statue of Lenin that provides a marvelous opportunity to have your photograph taken with this iconic political leader.
Day 6 Krasnoyarsk

Krasnoyarsk, like Yekaterinburg and Ulan-Ude, was a “closed city” during Soviet times. It is located along the Yenissei River, the largest river system that flows into the Arctic Ocean. A sightseeing tour will show you the main shopping street, a unique area decorated by palm trees. During a boat cruise on the Yenissei River you will get a fantastic view of the city and the mighty railway bridge that crosses the river.
Day 7 Irkutsk

Irkutsk is known as the ‘Paris of Siberia’. Today's tour includes an exploration of the classic wooden architecture that has given this region’s buildings such a distinct appearance. Next you will visit the Decembrist House Museum, dedicated to the exiled aristocrats who were forced to this remote outpost after the failed revolution of 1825. Here you will enjoy a private concert before returning to the train for dinner.
Day 8 Lake Baikal

Few natural sights can surpass the beauty and grandeur of Lake Baikal. Five hours of winding along cliff-hugging tracks above the lake will give you an expansive view of snow-capped peaks and glistening stretches of water.

Lake Baikal is the deepest lake on earth and holds 20% of the world’s freshwater supply. Also known as the ‘Pearl of Siberia’, it is home to a unique breed of freshwater seals and over fifty species of fish including omul, which we will be serving in the dining car. Weather permitting you will stop at one of Baikal’s secluded bays to enjoy a delicious BBQ of smoked fish prepared by our own chefs. For the brave-hearted there is even time for a refreshing swim in the crystal clear waters. You will visit Listvyanka in the afternoon, a small settlement nestled at the base of the surrounding hills.
Day 9 Ulan Ude

This morning you will arrive in Ulan Ude, the capital of the Buryat Republic. The ethnic and cultural diversity of this area offers a unique insight into its heritage. During your exploration of the Old Believers Village, you will have the opportunity to learn about the culture and history of these religious people as you are treated to a traditional meal and a concert featuring local dancers and musicians.
Day 10 Ulan-Bator

Your Trans-Siberian adventure takes you next to Ulan-Bator, the capital of Mongolia. Passing the central monument to Genghis Khan, undoubtedly the most feared and revered Mongol, you will visit the National Museum and explore the country’s intriguing history. Lunch will be in a traditional Ger (Yurt) with authentic local dishes and entertainment, providing a unique opportunity to experience this time-honored nomadic way of life. You are free to spend your afternoon shopping for Mongolian gifts or drive through the Gorkhi-Terelj National Park.

Today an unforgettable excursion will take you to the Terelj National Park with its stone formation called “turtle” and other holy places. In the park you will meet a herder family inside their yurt before taking in a show that demonstrates two disciplines of the Mongolian National Naadaam Festival: Wrestling and Archery.
Day 12 Onboard

Enjoy a day of wonderful Mongolian scenery as you pass through the Gobi Desert. In the late evening your train will arrive at the Mongolian-Chinese border. Mongolian and Chinese immigration formalities will take place onboard the train. A connecting Chinese train will be waiting in the station of Erlian, and while your luggage is being transferred you will enjoy a quick tour of the local bazaar and a traditional Chinese lunch. In the afternoon your train will pass through the southern parts of the Gobi Desert on its way to Beijing.
Day 13 Great Wall and Ming Tombs

The highlight of today will be your visit to the Great Wall (Badaling Section), one of the Seven Wonders of the World and a symbol of Chinese strength. Like a giant stone dragon, the Great Wall winds up and down mountain ranges to protect China's border. You will complete your day with a tour of the Ming Tombs (Changling Tomb), home to the remains of Ming Dynasty emperors.
