“Goritsy” means “hills” in Russian, as the town stands on a hill that overlooks a perfectly blue lake. Goritsy is also home to one of the oldest monasteries in the world, the Kiril-Beloozerskiy Monastery, founded in 1397. This tiny town is one of Russia’s religious havens, filled with enough relics and gorgeous churches to invigorate the staunchest of atheists.
