MS Litvinov

Maxim Litvinov served as the face of the Soviet Union to the West in the World War II era. Given his role in arranging the Lend-Lease program between the United States and the Soviets, his name naturally appears on a ship built in 1991 for foreign tourists on Russia’s many beautiful waterways. Many travelers favor the MS Maxim Litvinov for seeing the country’s rivers, as its sundeck offers the most expansive view. Even the rooms have picture windows. Guest quarter furnishings include refrigerators and private showers, and ship interiors are comfortably air conditioned with an as-yet-unusual-for-Russia no-smoking policy. There are two restaurants competing for the boasting rights of most delicious offerings, as well as comfortable public lounges and bars for those seeking to relax. As Litvinov, its namesake, this ship travels extensively on what is arguably the longest Russian river schedule, the trip between St. Petersburg and Rostov-na-Donu.
