MS Shashkov

During World War II, Zosima Shashkov played an important role in administering the river boats on behalf of Stalin, eventually serving in a ministry post by the time of his retirement in 1963. Naturally, such an important person would find his name on an important passenger river craft in the late Soviet era. A Type 302 ship, the MS Zosima Shashkov left East Germany’s Boizenburg shipyards in 1985 as a 4-deck, 129-meter-length tourist boat (capacity of 296) destined for Soviet waters. Its equipment and accommodations have since been periodically upgraded as needed (last upgrade was in 2011). It is able to sail at 17 mph (25.5 kph) on the Mighty Volga between St. Petersburg and Moscow, and provides a no-frills exploration of the historic sights along the way. Each cabin above the Lower Deck enjoys views from large scenic windows (the lower level is port-holed), and all cabins have their own private facilities, air conditioning, and refrigerators. Zosima himself would be proud.

Returned last night from Russia. It was an extraordinary adventure- both land and water! Thank you so much for all your help in putting it all together for Ingrid, Susan and myself. The flight arrangements you found were perfect. The cruise was very enjoyable, entertaining and relaxing. The excursions were ideal and the guides very informative, friendly and helpful. The Rossi Hotel upgrade turned out to be a highlight- they arranged our taxis to and from the theaters and their fusion Euro-Asian restaurant is superb. The ladies even took happy advantage of the Spa.

I am still absorbing the wonder and beauty of Russia to which we were exposed- the people, the landscapes, the waterways and the culture. I have traveled a lot and this was certainly one of the most impressive highlights. All best to you and “spaciba!”

It has been almost 2 weeks since we returned from our Russian River Cruise and trip to Helsinki. I want to thank you for all your work organizing our trip. We had a wonderful time and the trip exceeded our expectation. All the organization of setting up our tickets for the ballet, orchestra, train tickets to Helsinki and drivers went well. Again thanks for all the planning for this wonderful trip.

I want to let you know what a successful trip it has been. The two hotels you organised for me have been excellent, the transfers have all been on time and the boat trip exceeded my expectations- the food was great, the tours and guides organised were thorough and varied. In fact everything was tops. I therefore want to thank you very much for all your assistance and patience in organising such a wonderful trip for me. You did a fantastic job. I will recommend you to anyone who is thinking of visiting Russia.
With kind regards,
Diane Barry
