Itinerary
No journey is complete without experiencing one of Russia’s oldest capitals. This Kiev extension adds the history, unique culture, and excitement of one of Eastern Europe’s greatest cities to any Russia or Baltic tour.
Day 1 Arrival to Kiev

Welcome to Kiev, the capital of the ancient kingdom of Russ and modern-day Ukraine! We will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in the city center. We have planned a welcome dinner for this evening, which will be a perfect opportunity to meet the rest of your group and the guides who will be showing you the city during the next few days.
Day 2 Kiev City Tour

Kiev is one of the oldest surviving cities of ancient Russ. The kingdom of Kievan Russ, from which Russia, the Ukraine, and Belarus descended, was established between the 9th and 11th centuries and was one of the most advanced principalities in Europe before it was finally destroyed by the Mongols. The Mongols were particularly keen on burning Kiev, so much so that they raided it every few years to ensure that it never recovered its power and influence. It was in the shadow of this titanic struggle that the small principality of Moscow began building in power.

St. Sofia Cathedral (1037 AD) is an amazing architectural testament to Kievan Russ. Originally the burial place of Kievan rulers, it fell into disrepair after the pillaging by the Kievan dukes in 1169 and then by the Mongols in 1240. The Soviet rulers called for the destruction of the cathedral, but thanks to the efforts of scientists and historians, this national heritage has been preserved.

Andreevsky Uzviz  is a major tourist attraction in Kiev that is often compared to Montmartre. Some of Kiev's most interesting sites are here, including the Castle of Richard the Lionheart, St Andrew's Church, and Mikhail Bulgakov's house. This street also has a plethora of gift shops, art galleries, delicious restaurants, and museums, making it popular among locals and tourists alike.

Day 3 Kiev-Pecherskaya Lavra

Kiev is one of the oldest surviving cities of ancient Rus. One of the most interesting sights in Kiev is the Kievo-Pecherskaya Lavra Monastery. Dating back to 11th century, it was the first large christian temple built in Russian lands. The Monastery is a gigantic complex with various churches and structures on the surface and intricate caves and labyrinths underneath. You will have a chance to not only walk around this very special place, but to also see the mummies of some of Russia’s ancient heroes.

The Kiev-Pecherskaya Lavra was the center of Orthodox Christianity in Eastern Europe until the seat of the Russian Orthodox Church was moved to the Novodevichiy Convent in Moscow. The Kiev Pecherskaya Lavra contains numerous architectural monuments, ranging from bell towers to cathedrals to an underground cave system. Lavra is also the burial place of many ancient rulers. Today it is one of the largest museums in Kiev.
Day 4 Free Day and Maidan Nezalejnosti

Today is a free day. We recommend visiting the Maidan Nezalejnosti, the central city square and the site of the recent "Orange Revolution". If you would like guided services or to arrange a special program, please ask your tour manager.
Day 5 Departure

This is the final day of your tour. Your driver will take you to the airport. You will be leaving home with a lifetime of memories and unforgettable experiences!
