In the morning you meet your group and driver at the Gorno-Altaysk Airport and have a transfer to the charming Ust-Sema Village. And after lunch, you start your exciting exploration of the Altai region! One of our local drivers takes you to the Chemal District, the most famous resort of Altai since Soviet times, due to its dry climate, clean air, and stunning natural landscapes.

During the tour, you visit the Patmos Island, named after one of the Greek islands. The only way to reach this incredible place is over a suspension wooden bridge across the Katun River, so get ready for a memorable ride! Upon arrival, you explore the Evangelist Church of St. John, now an active female monastery.

Then you continue to the Goat Trail, a narrow picturesque path a little over 1 km (0.6 mi) long. The Goat Trail provides fantastic views over the Katun and Chemal rivers, running between the rocky cliffs, as well as over the two-humped Mount Camel.

After the tour, you are transferred to your remarkable hotel, set on the bank of Katun River. After check-in, you have the evening at leisure.

Following breakfast, you check out from the hotel and set off to explore the Chuya Highway, listed among the most scenic highways in the world. The first stop on your way is the Seminsky mountain crossing, the highest in Gorny Altai. Some people say that this is the point where the real Altai begins!

Then you drive up to the Chike-Taman mountain crossing. Although it's not as high as Seminsky, the views over the mountain landscapes it offers are just as stunning.

Your next destination is the confluence of the Chuya and Katun rivers. From ancient times, the locals believe that this spot is sacred and you must behave there accordingly.

Afterward, you move to the ancient sanctuary Kalbak-Tash. Its name can be translated as the "hanging flat stone" and it's famous for the carved rock images. They were made thousands of years ago and still remain untouched. The rock carvings of Kalbak-Tash go back to various epochs, including the Neolithic Age (6 - 4 thousand years BC), the Eneolithic-bronze era (3 - 1 thousand years BC), and the Ancient Turkic era (VII - X century BC).

After the tour, you are transferred to your hotel for check-in.

  • Drive distance: 350 km (217 mi).
  • Accommodation: a guest house near the Aktash village (double or twin room).

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.

After an early breakfast, you go on a full-day trip to the Katu-Yaryk Pass, meaning the "cramped gorge" in the Altai language. On your way there, you cross the Ulagan Plato, home to many gorgeous lakes.

The Katu-Yaryk Pass is a high mountain pass at the elevation of 1188 m (3898 ft) above the sea level. Its construction was completed in 1989 and gave the local population and visitors of the region a great chance to explore a place of magical nature, inaccessible before.

From the pass, you see the impressive canyon of the Chulyshman River, the wonderful Karasuu Waterfall, and other impressive places of unspoiled nature.

On top of the pass, you have lunch and enjoy fantastic views before a trip back to your hotel near the Aktash village. Upon your arrival, you have the rest of the evening free and can have a good rest after an exciting day.

  • Drive distance: 200 km (124 mi).

Following breakfast, you continue exploring the treasures of Altai. Your day trip starts with a stop at the Geyser Lake, located not far from the Aktash Village. The perpetually ice-free lake is famous for its beautiful turquoise color and hot thermal springs. They are responsible for bringing the blue silt to the bottom, forming the colorful pictures on the lake's surface.

You continue to Kurai Steppe, boasting a lot of beautiful locations, such as the magnificent snowy peaks of the North Chuya Range. Don't forget your camera, because you won't be able to put it away!

Then we invite you to visit the local "Mars" as locals call the amazing Kyzyl-Chin Mountains. As you can guess, the unique mountains got their nickname because of the bright red, yellow, and green loam, covering them.

At the end of your day, you return to your hotel near the Aktash village.
