Why Visit the Gorkhi-Terelj National Park

A vast, sprawling, and life-affirming region, the Gorkhi-Terelj National Park is perfect for travelers looking to get away from the chaotic city life during their Mongolia tour. It is a destination for rock climbers, adventure enthusiasts and travelers of all types.

This national park features an array of soaring mountains, perfectly green grass, and an assortment of interestingly shaped rocks. With numerous tourist camps nearby, there are still some features of modern life including cafes, gift shops, and more. But it's not the man-made attractions that make this spot visiting, its the amazing natural beauty that enhances it to a world-class park.

The Yestii hot water natural springs are perfect for unwinding and absorbing the natural surrounding beauty. Khagiin Khar Lake is a deep glacier lake that provides an extraordinary view at sunset.

All of these locations are perfect for photography and artistic inspiration. Its positive influence has given it the name "Mongolia's Switzerland," and it even attracted the American television show "The Amazing Race."

Rock climbers will be in heaven with some of the world's best natural rock formations available for climbing. There is also an active Buddhist monastery that openly welcomes visitors.

With the Tuul River flowing throughout the park, it can be pleasurable to simply walk along and take in all of nature's wonders. And while many of the rock formations are standard, the Turtle Rock is worth seeking out for its interesting design.

Gorkhi-Terelj National Park is the best place for a day trip from Ulan Bator as you get the chance to relax and enjoy the great outdoors.
